  • International Night Success–Bringing Families Together

On Tuesday May 1st, JSEC had it’s International Night, which is an event that JSEC resurrected from the past! Being on the Family and Community Engagement Committee, we are always looking for intriguing and meaningful activities for our students’ families. It is without a doubt that International Night is a big hit because every family has a dish that is near and dear to them. It is also very symbolic: the sharing of bread is a powerful equalizer among people of all backgrounds. It is a night of ethnic foods and entertainment from all over the world.

Adoldo Morales-Singer

Aroldo Morales is a was born singer and entertainer! His parents own Lucia’s Mexican Restaurant on Atwells Avenue in Providence and for the past five years he has enjoyed showing his talent at karaoke nights at his parent’s business and he also loves participating in cultural community events. He got his talent from his father who also enjoys singing and often perform together at the family business. Aroldo at 11 years old was certainly the star of the night with a crowd that wouldn’t stop cheering for him to continue singing. Of course the nature of a child took over and he was impressed to be in a high school and could’t wait to tour the building, he even sat at Principal’s desk and said

“It  felt good to be a principal” even for 5 minutes. Aroldo promised to come back to our next event in his Mariachi outfit.
JSEC Student International Exhibitions

Mr. Delrosario and the rest of his team called parents in advance to figure out how many families were coming and what foods would be available. He also sought out some entertainment from the JSEC family. It was Ms. Pinto’s young nephew who stole our hearts with his amazing singing voice.

It was joyous! I can’t tell you how heartwarming the event was, and I hope we can continue this tradition for years to come.
