The JSEC Attendance Prize Patrol yet again caught JSEC students coming to school on time each and every day for the Month of April. Two classes in particular had outstanding attendance and were rewarded by the Prize Patrol with a delicious Outback catered lunch on Monday, May 5th, 2025, which happened to fall on Cinco De Mayo. Students from Mr. Martinez and Ms. Greene’s period 2 classes were treated to a catered lunch by provided by Outback Steakhouse. Students were brought down to the cafeteria following 2nd Lunch where the cafeteria was cleared out from the two previous lunches and the JSEC Attendance Team or Prize Patrol, facilitated the luncheon.
Students won for winning most improved attendance. The contest was based on Period #2 and comparisons were made from the least attended classes from the beginning of the contest to those same classes having the highest increase of consistent students attendance.
As most people know attendance is very important because it directly impacts a student’s academic performance, future prospects, and social development. Regular attendance allows students to access crucial instructional time, stay on track with their coursework, and build essential social and emotional skills. Additionally, attendance is linked to graduation rates and can be a better predictor of graduation than test score.
“We worked hard to earn this lunch by making sure we showed up to class each and everyday on time. Our reward was to pick any restaurant we went to eat from and we all agreed upon Outback. Glad we did because the food was delicious” -Braylin Dominguez
“Wasn’t sure about the prize just knew we wanted to win and the so happy we did” -Gabriel Lopez
Kudos to these two classes who motivated each other to come to class each and every day on time. Attendance does matter and special thanks to our JSEC staff who made the event happen and for offering such great prizes. Earlier in the month they provided a breakfast cart to those classes that had highest attendance. Incentivizing attendance is a great way to not only encourage students to attend school but to also improve knowledge gained which increases test scores. Food consisted of steak, rolls, smashed potatoes, and drinks, and admittedly it was far better tasting than our normal cafeteria lunch.
