POET X-By Elizabeth Acevedo

Book Club Book Review

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo is much like a poetic novel, It talks about the life of a Dominican teenager named Xiomara and her struggle to feel accepted by her religion as well as embracing her body.

It is mainly about her relationship with her controlling mother and gives insight on the ethic background of religion and how it is lived in everyday life.

It’s in a poem format which not only makes it easier to read but also shows some symbolism that will stay with you forever.

I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to have a sense of understanding. As well to those who wish to know more about life with a strict and very religious family.
