On Friday March 6th, 2026, JSEC students from the Medical Pathway, journeyed over to Johnson & Wales University to compete in a HOSA’s state-wide competition to showcase skills learned in their JSEC classes. JSEC competed with some of the top high schools in the state of Rhode Island including: Barrington HS, Tiverton HS, LaSalle Academy, Classical HS, East Greenwich HS, S. Kingstown HS, The Wheeler School, Moses Brown School, Lincoln School, N. Providence HS, & Scituate HS.

JSEC participants include: Jay’a Richard, Angel Nunez, Raquel Soberanis, Arlene Rodriquez, Emely Rivas, Jo Batista, Jerimiah Cabrera, Keasia Mulbah, Mohammad, Adam Sackor, Elijah Ruiz, Josian Franco, Rosderely Guzman, Lesly Guzman, Josmeily Minier, Veasna Yean, Mary Moore, Angela Fuente, Yarel Gullien, Sanaii Barros, & Franchelly Demerinda. Ms. Garland and Mr. Moreau also chaperoned the event and additionally served as judges with Mrs. Chisholm spearheading the day as JSEC’s HOSA Advisor.

JSEC took on these schools and took home 14 medals comprised of (4) first place medals and (3) 2nd place medals in a variety of competitions. Many of these were team competitions which resulted in 14 students bringing home medals. In addition to these medals, Angelly Cruz won 1st place in winning the 2026 RI HOSA Pin Design. This was one of the first prizes announced and it ignited the entire audience to kick off the Awards Ceremony.

There were about 19 rooms that were utilized throughout Johnson & Wales University, with judges using rubrics measuring standards in each category. JSEC students participated in many categories including but not limited to: Medical Photography, CPR/First-Aid, Medical Innovation, Health Care Displays, & Community Awareness. The HOSA upcoming National Convention which is held nationally is held in June and this year will be held in Minnesota.
