On Friday, March 6th, 2025 thirty-two JSEC student in each our our JSEC Life Science Pathways, competed in one of toughest academic competitions that the state of Rhode Island holds. Student’s prepared throughout the year to compete in the many different categories the competition had to offer. JSEC loaded an entire bus, being sent well wishes by Mrs. Testa while boarding. You could feek the pride Mrs. Testa had as the student’s loaded up the bus with their posters, props, and robotic arms. The bus was filled with hopeful students that their projects and presentations would impress judges enough so they might take home the coveted HOSA Medals. Ms. Chisholm, Mrs. Sen, and Mr. Moreau served to chaperone, assist, and even proctor testing throughout the morning. Following competitions in each event, students were treated to a catered boxed lunch by Johnson and Wales University. While eating lunch students had a chance to socialize with other competitors for many different schools, all of whom were anxiously awaiting the upcoming HOSA Awards Ceremony following lunch.
Of the 350 HOSA competitors statewide, our students had a fantastic competition at States with amazing results. We had 32 competitors on 13 teams and walked away with 16 medals. Our Forensics Science team bested the entire competition winning 1st place for all of RI and earning a Bronze Medal. Since HOSA uses a National Rubric, the color of the medal depends on the number of points students earned during phase one which is either a test or a portfolio, and stage two which is their healthcare performance or presentation. Here are our results:

All of our students did a remarkable job. When you see them this week please congratulate them on a job well done! Students interested in becoming part of this Annual Competition should should see Mrs. Chisholm or to enroll in course specific related classes, then make an appointment with Guidance to ensure schedules are aligned accordingly.
Congrats to JSEC students for shining at the HOSA Statewide Competition and wishing continued success for all going to the National HOSA Competition in the Summer. Here are just some of the highlights of the day:
